RE: Should I volunteer or just go and drink beer?
I have just received my annual invitation help out at the St Albans beer festival.
I am promised free beer and food and associated frivolity if I provide my beer pulling services (as yet un-honed).
However, there must presumably be some limit to ‘on-duty’ consumption, as presumably it would be rather un-seemly to be found ‘drunk in charge of a barrel of ale, even at a beer festival?
So…. should I just go and drink beer with my mates?
“To drink or not to drink. That is the question”.
“I drink therefore I am”.
That which does not kill us makes us stronger. So have a pint.

St Albans Beer festival. It lasts for 4 days Stompy.
Volunteer for the first 2 days and refrain from excessive pintage – no more than 4 every 6 hours. Sleep under the main stage in amongst the crash mats and emerge on day 3 as a free and liberated man. Drink happily in the knowledge that you’ve spent the previous 2 days in pursuit of helping the common good.
Your 2 days of accumulated pint quality knowledge will mean that you’ll know what the best tipples are. And you’ll probably receive a free t-shirt, glass, keyring and beer towel. Maybe a hat.
Do both. Do it.
